What’s in your pocket?

Every fortnight, I get together with my book coach and another lady via Zoom for our writers' group. These chats are amazing, with two awesome ladies. Each session, I look forward to writing a short piece on a topic that one of us decides at the previous session. This is the latest one:

What’s in my pocket?

The question could be: Are my pockets deep or shallow—metaphorically, of course.

Well, the answer to that question may lie in what is actually in my pockets. Right at this moment, there is only a solitary tissue. It’s not yet used, though folded, not scrunched—does that imply deepness? I wonder.

When I was nursing, I would often come home, and my scrubs' pockets would contain a pen, and worse still, a surgical blade. Now, don’t get me wrong, it was in a packet—so my legs and dignity were intact. Does that imply shallowness—or just busyness? Probably busyness.

This is a long-winded way of answering the question: What’s in your pocket? The answer depends on the moment. Does it indicate depth or shallowness…probably not, but it sounded good at the time.💖

Weirdness in the English language:

You know, the English language can be weird—to me, the word busyness does not look right, and the more I look at it, the worse it seems. If we change one letter in the word to make it look right, it would read—business—which looks better, though we get a completely different meaning. Really…

💠Business = work, company, profession, or commercial activity, i.e., Running an author business takes time, dedication and sometimes luck.

💠Busyness = the state of being busy, with many things to do, i.e., The busyness of book promotion has been exciting and full of possibilities.

✔️ or ❌: What do you think? 🤔
